Is Orchiectomy Necessary For A Hydrocele Surgery?

default
Posted on Wed, 23 Jul 2014
Question: I am a candidate for hydrocele surgery here in XXXXXXX My condition includes BPH. My PSA was last determined to be 2.86. In my patient summary, my urologist states that a small chance exists that an orchiectomy may have to be done during the procedure. Unless a severe case of prostate cancer exists, I would not want an orchiectomy. Without naming my Doctor here, it there some way that I can get a rating on his success in hydrocele surgery?

Brief Answer:
You may refuse for Orchidectomy.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for your query, based on the facts that you have posted it appears that you have been posted for Hydrocele surgery in near future and you have been cautioned about a need for removal of testis (Orchidectomy )if required.

Please note that in majority of cases of hydrocele surgery Orchidectomy is not required unless on exploration it turns out to be infected hydrocele. However this can be determined by doing Ultrasound Scanning of Scrotum before heading for surgery.Second option is to take antibiotics for couple weeks prior to surgery .

Since you have normal PSA .You have every right to refuse going for removal of testis( Orchidectomy) and give consent for hydrocele surgery only.

Hope I have answered your query ,please feel free to ask if you have more questions ,
I shall be happy to help you
Thanks and Regards.
