Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Most cases of Bell's palsy resolves over a period of 4 to 8 weeks. Rarely the healing process is delayed and in exceedingly low number of cases a permanent disability is left behind.
I understand you are concerned about your mother's condition; but don't worry. Most of them recovery well.
If pain is troubling her, she can try moist heat compresses on the affected side. She can also start oral pain medicines such as aceclofenac after discussing with the treating doctor.
General treatment is initially with steroids and antiviral drugs. It should be followed up with active physiotherapy. I insist that she considers physiotherapy actively. Don't miss those physio sessions. Learn more exercise that can be done at home.
I wish her speedy recovery. Let me know if you need clarifications.
