Question : I have had gullian bere. Can i get a pneumonia vaccine shot?

                                    Brief Answer:
Vaccination safety
Detailed Answer:
good evening
well. if you have recovered there is a less chance of the recurrent gbs. but it is always a bit hard to say which vaccine will react or not. most cases have been reported with influenza vaccine but rarely with pneumococcal.
but to be on the safer side , make sure you have had at least 3 months past by after recovery.

It's been 10 years since I had GBS. At that time the diagnosing Neurologist said i should never have ANY vaccinations, particularly FLU!!. My research tells me that many, including Flu vaccines have changed the formulas and the way produced. Does the span of time since I had it then make a difference??.

Vaccine Safety
Detailed Answer:
Good evening
Well, it is a very dicy thing to predict whether or not it will trigger Gullian bare again. Yes you are right, lot of vaccination component have changed and the rate of reactions to it has declined quite some. But no studies or case reports have been there regarding Pneumovac vaccine. Mostly with influenza one.
The duration is important as Pathogenesis of Gullian Barre is due to antibody produced by the body in response to some infection or some vaccination. So, till it neutralizes it is not advisable to give another foreign antigen. But 10 years is a long time and I feel there should be no harm in vaccination if the indication is strong.
