Is Pregnancy Possible After Tubal Ligation?

default
Posted on Mon, 30 Nov 2015
Question: Hello, I just found out yesterday that I am pregnant, by urine and blood test. According to my last period, I am 6 weeks. However, I had my tubes cut, tied and burned 4 months ago. Last night I started pink spotting, then brown, and now this morning and throughout the whole day I have been bleeding, a little less than my normal period. Should i be worried? What does all this mean? I have no pain, no cramps. Just really gassy.
When should I receive an answer?

Brief Answer:
it might have been aborted. get a usg abdomen asap

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
Usually if a pregnancy still occurs in a woman after the fallopian tubes have been ligated, the pregnancy is some what a complicated one.
It could have been a ectopic one or not properly implanted.
Now you are having bleeding which is not supposed to happen in normal pregnancy unless abortion process has started.
So if you have seen a chunk of mass in your bleed then probably you have expelled the fetus.
But if you haven't then it shows that the abortion process is not complete and its incomplete abortion.
Right now i would like to advice you to get a ultrasound abdomen done asap.
It will show the location of implantation and also will show whether any products are still remaining inside or not.
Depending on report kindly consult your gynecologist who will take further action depending on the report.
I hope i have answered your query well. If you have any more query kindly write back to me will clear your doubts.
Thank you

Brief Answer:
Go to ER. ectopic pregnancy should be ruled out

Detailed Answer:
Hello, Thanks for following up with me.
As you are already bleeding which has stopped so it could be ectopic or normal pregnancy which got aborted.
It will be better if you go as soon as possible to ER and ask for ultrasound abdomen to be done.
Once ectopic is ruled out you can meet your gynecologist on monday with ease.
This i am telling is because ectopic pregnancy which can occur more common in post tubal ligation pregnancies are more complicated and harmful. So just to rule that out better get scan as early as possible.
So it will be advisable to go now to ER.
Take care.
Any more queries are welcome.
