Question: I have been on XXXXXXX for over 3 years i took a one month break but then decided to go back on XXXXXXX i have been back on XXXXXXX for 4 months, last month i was on holiday alot so my pill time taking varied slightly, usually always 7am but maybe somedays 8/9 or 10 am at the latest but never missed, i had diarhea on a few occassions possibly to do with being on holiday but never 2 hrs after taking the pill so im hoping it was fully absorbed, i am on my 7 day break at the moment and will be starting my next pack in 2 days, if i was to have sex on the second pill of my pack will i be protected ok? I will make sure to be taking it at 7am, i was always only taking XXXXXXX for acne purposes but would like to now as a contraceptive i will also use a condom its just i have never had sex before and want to make sure im protected

Brief Answer:
Yes. You will be protected.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome to Healthcare Magic.

I am Dr Ramadevi Wani. I will be answering your concerns today.
It is nice to know that you are regular in your pill intake. I really appreciate your discipline.
Yes, you will be protected if you have sex on the day of second pill provided you start the next pack at the right time and continue to take the pills regularly. It is good that you have decided to use condom. This is extremely important as in addition to contraception it protects against sexually transmitted diseases.

I hope this helps. If you have further concerns, do write to me. I will be happy to answer.
Best wishes,
Dr Rama

If i am starting my next packet of pills tomorrow (yasmin) am i protected from pregnancy straight away? Im just im confused as to how it works last month i took all my pills the times varied slighty i always take it at 7am but some days maybe 9 or 10 i had diarrhea once so took an extra pill that day just to make sure, i am in my 7 pill free days had my bleed and the next packet starts tomorrow i will be making sure i takey pills on time, does this mean i am protected straight away or will last months pill taking have ruined my protection its just i was only ever taking them for acne but now i would like to for contraceptive purposes

Brief Answer:
You will be protected straight away with the next pack.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome back.
Variation in timings of 2-3 hours while taking XXXXXXX definitely does not reduce the efficacy of contraceptive pills that you took last month. Don’t worry. Relax.
You will be protected straight away with the next pack.

You can start next pack from today itself if you are so worried.

If you have further concerns, do write to me. I will be happy to answer.

Best wishes,
Dr Rama
