Is Pregnancy Possible Through Pre-ejaculatory Fluid?

Posted on Wed, 22 Jun 2016
Question: Hi there, I am a 33 year old healthy female. My last period was April 23rd. My cycles are normally around 30 days. I had unprotected sex with my 44 year old male partner on May 6th. He takes medicine for ED, and he did pull out before ejaculating. I usually feel ovulation pains and have ewcm. I have had some back cramps, but haven't noticed my usual signs of ovulation. I took an OPK 2 days after intercourse and it was negative. I have taken OPK's the past 3 days and all have been negative. I am so worried about a pregnancy, because this is not an ideal time for that to happen. What are my chances of becoming pregnant for one night on that cycle day? Does ED affect fertility?

Brief Answer:
Most likely very less chances of pregnancy

Detailed Answer:
Hello Mam, thanks for trusting health care magic.
If OPK is negative after the sexual activity then there is nothing to worry most likely as you have regular 30 day cycle.
But only slight chances are there in case the kit showed false negative report (which is quite common) or if there was early ovulation (unlikely).
So in my opinion presently there is nothing that you can do except to wait for your periods and then in case you miss them do a urine pregnancy test.
In case you have any other question, I will be happy to answer.

Does ED affect his fertility? Also, does his age play a factor in his fertility? He is 44. I have taken 3 OPK's and they have all been negative.

Brief Answer:
Less chances of pregnancy

Detailed Answer:
Yes dear, epileptic disorder (ED) does affect fertility as it can cause decreased libido and even erection problems.
But in case he has no issues like that then nothing to worry.
Also same is the case with age but effect of age is indeed very subtle in males.
In my opinion chances of pregnancy are less than 5% in your case.

He has erectile dysfunction, which he takes medicine for. Does that affect fertility?

Brief Answer:
Can affect fertility

Detailed Answer:
Yes it can affect his fertility definitely because of impaired blood supply and of course poor semen quality.
So proper evaluation of the reason behind dysfunction and his hormone profile is very much needed.
You can upload his test results if any and we can discuss further management

Hi, last night I had a lot of back cramping and had a little brown cervical mucus. Tonight I have had some cramps off and on. My partner informed me he didn't pull out. I'm so nervous. I'm hoping what I am having is ovulation or early menses. What are your thoughts?
Thanks

Brief Answer:
Ovulation pain most likely

Detailed Answer:
In my opinion this is your ovulation and thus probably nothing to worry.
You can take a pain killer if you feel uncomfortable but in case pain persists or increases get an ultrasound at the earliest.
Take care

I took an OPK this morning and it was still negative! I don't know what's going on. What are the odds of being pregnant from one act of unprotected sex? Even if it was on my ovulation day?

Brief Answer:
15% or less

Detailed Answer:
Chances of pregnancy are around 15% of less if Sex is done on the day of ovulation itself.
This is incidence is in ideal conditions when both partners are having all normal anatomy and hormone profile.
In real life thus ideal situation comes in 4-5 months so usual incidence of pregnancy per cycle is less than 10% practically.
so just relax and keep calm

Hi, I'm back again. Can't help but worry. I had ovulation cramping, I think a few days ago. Mainly a lot of lower back cramps. I never had a positive OPK and according to calculations I should have ovulated Monday or Tuesday of this week. Also, about two months ago I had periods about two weeks apart. just so nervous.

Brief Answer:
BHcg on 20th may.

Detailed Answer:
You need to stop worrying dear as I told you chances of pregnancy are minimal as your OPK never came positive during the time of sexual activity. But just to relieve your anxiety and be double sure I want you to have bHCG test (blood test) done on 20th May.
This test will confirm non pregnant status and cover the risk of false negative OPK test too.
All the best.
