Question : I had sex on january 8th and i bled dark brown blood starting on the 10th and it lasted for a week. I have now been experiencing cramps for about 3 days now and i feel like i am about to start my period, but im not due for my period till january 27. Im also on the mirena iud and we used a condom. What could this be? The possibility of pregnancy is very low, right ?
Brief Answer:
definitely not pregnant
Detailed Answer:
Hi there,
Welcome to HCM,
There is absolutely no chance of pregnancy as you have a Mirena and were using condoms. What you have is intermenstrual bleeding and it could be due to a number of causes.
It could be a cervical cause such as erosion or polyp. Or it could be due to the mirena itself, some women experience irregular bleeding on Mirena for upto 1 year too.
You will need to get checked for pelvic inflammatory diseases too. As they could also present with bleeding.
Hope this helps
Regards.

Does intermenstrual bleeding cause cramps?
Brief Answer:
yes its a possibility
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Yes it can cause cramps, especially if you have polyps, or fibroids in the uterine cavity, they can result in pain and irregular bleed.
The cause of intermentrual bleeding is necessary to be found for effective treatment.

Hi i am no longer bleeding. But off and on i do experience menstrual like cramps. But no period. I am very worried
Brief Answer:
no worries
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Do not worry, since the bleeding has stopped it's a good sign, you could get a pelvic ultrasound to see the size and shape of uterus and presence of endometrial thickening or any ovarian cause, an internal check by gynaecologist to see the cervix and rule out any local cause such as polyps.
For the pain you could take tab. Buscopan for pain relief.
If no other cause of intermenstrual bleeding is found then you should consider removal of the Mirena, if the bleeding does not stop.
Hope this helps.
Regards.
