Is Pregnancy Possible Without Ejaculatory Sex?

default
Posted on Wed, 5 Nov 2014
Question: I usually have very regular periods and bleeding is excessive. I was having Regestrone tablets to postpone my period due to travel. When it started I was asked to have Trapic MF due to my usual excessive bleeding. So bleeding was relatively less. How fertile is the 7th day from the start of the period. Can penetration without ejaculation cause pregnancy during that time?

Brief Answer:
Not likely to cause a pregnancy.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for trusting us with your health concern.
If you have a regular cycle of 28-30 days then Day 7 is the relatively infertile period of your cycle. On day 7, just a penetration without an ejaculation will not cause a pregnancy.
The chances of being pregnant are less than 2%. So, do not worry.

Hi Doctor,

Thank you so much for your answer. I do have a doubt. In a regular cycle which are the fertile days? If there is intercourse during my period, is it true that sperm will survive within the body for 4-5 days and by that time if the female fertile period starts there are chances of conception?

Thank you again!

Brief Answer:
Details below.

Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Thanks for writing again.
In a regular cycle of 28 days the fertile days are from 11 to 17. A healthy sperm can remain viable for 48-72 hours to cause a pregnancy. After that it loses all it energy and cannot swim to the released ova and cause a fertilization even if it is alive. The egg is released on Day 14 in a 28 day cycle.
Precum contains just a few sperms that are left over in the urethra from the previous ejaculations. Without an ejaculation inside the vagina, the sperm is not likely to cause a pregnancy after 5 days. Abstinence from day 11 to 17 decreases the chances of pregnancy to less than 10% per cycle.
Hope my answer is helpful.
