Is Pulse Rate Of 40 A Cause For Concern?

default
Posted on Thu, 4 May 2017
Question: Hi, I am former athlete (distance runner). My concern here is a slow heart rate as well as pulse. I still run but only 35 to 45 min. every other day, and also moderate weight training. My current pulse now is 40. I am not out of breath, the chest area feels uncomfortable at times. This concerns me when I sleep at night; any recommendations?

Brief Answer:
Get and EKG done!

Detailed Answer:
HI and thanks so much for this query.

I am so sorry to hear about your concern but this might be just normal for athletes. I will suggest that you get an EKG just to make sure there is nothing wrong going on with you. However, am not really concerned as this is not uncommon in athletes. Let me know what the EKG says.

I wish you well and look forward hearing back from you!
