Question : I have an ast of 34 and alt of 83. Should I be worried. doctor put me on a statin for high cholesterol and will re - test my liver in three weeks.
Brief Answer:
AST normal, ALT raised.
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
AST is within normal range. However, ALT has risen from 52 to 83. It needs to be evaluated. Statin is prescribed if your lipid is also raised.
I suggest the following:
If you are an alcoholic, avoid alcohol. Avoid fast fried fatty foods. Avoid herbal products. Restrict dairy products. Maintain a healthy body weight. Maintain blood sugar level within normal range.
You should also undergo Serum Amylase, Serum Lipase and ultrasound abdomen after 3 weeks along with ALT and AST.
Hope I have answered your query.
