Brief Answer:
60% sustained virological response in 24 weeks

Detailed Answer:
As your father is already decompensated with ascites then over all recovery of liver will be difficult ,but he can attain SVR (sustained virological response) in 12 to 24 weeks with whatever treatment he is on. Sofasbavir is an wonderful drug with very little side effects but ribavarin causes anaemia so you need to regularly follow up with your doctor .And regarding chances it depends on his immune system and complications per se of decompensation like developing varix, severe ascites, coagulopathy, encephalopathy or peritoneal infection .

But if none of the above are present, he will be doing well .
hope this information helps you
thank you.

Brief Answer:
sustained virological response- aviremia in 24 weeks of antiviral therapy

Detailed Answer:
Survival chances depends on complication of decompensation which I already discussed earlier , 5 year survival is just 50 % .
you can actually go to your doctor and take an opinion regarding liver transplantation too ,because there are studies showing 5 year survival more then 80% but chances of reinfection is also high .
Thank you

Thanks doc,
I know there are minor side effects of sofosbuvir+ribavirin. How can we manage side effects? I am asking this because he was a patient of depression. So i am worried about side effects.
I am very much satisfied with your answer doctor. Thanks a lot.
