Is Redness On Skin Symptom Of Rosacea?

default
Posted on Wed, 8 Oct 2014
Question: I went into a pool at my gym, called a healing pool, temp was 92 degrees. I stayed in about 30 mins. I floated around with my legs doing a bicycling motion, very slowing for about 15 mins; my face was never in the water but my neck was. The pool had been closed for 1 week for cleaning and this was the first day opened, and was opened for 6 hrs. When I got out I was bright red from the bottom of my neck to the top of my head; and very hot burned a little. The whites of my eyes were also very red. A trainer at the gym took my blood pressure and it was high for me, but after and hour it was back to normal. The redness in my face went away very slowly over about 6 to 8 hours.
I had my heart checked out within an hour after my blood pressure read (EKG) and everything was fine. The next day l went to my family doctor, he said that I have a bad case of rosacea. I go to a Dermatologist twice a year and was never told that I had rosacea. I'm now afraid to get back in the healing pool or any pool. Just in case it is something to do with the cleaning of the pool or the rosacea. I exercise in the pool for my arthritis and I don't take any medication. I'm very confused and scared , what do you thing it might be and what should l do?

Brief Answer:
Chlorine

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thanks for your query.

I do not think its rosacea you have got. It appear to be a typical allergic reaction to the chlorine compounds in the pool water.

You may have a similar kind of reaction if you go into the same pool again. But this time it may be less severe.

I would suggest you to wait till the water in the pool is changed and then you can get into it.

Hope, I answered your query.

Wish you good health.
