Is Regular Periods Immediately After Child Delivery A Cause For Concern?

default
Posted on Tue, 15 Jul 2014
Question: My wife delivered a baby on March 21st by C-Section. The bleeding stopped after 3 weeks.bleeding started again on 24th april that stopped in about 5 days. Around 25th May there was again bleeding which was suspected to be regular periods by the doctor. We consulted the doctor and she asked to keep a calendar..This month the bleeding started on 24th like regular periods. The doctor confirmed it to be the menses.
Since she has been nursing the baby exclusively we were concerned about it.Please advise.
The bleeding started again on 24th XXXXXXX and increased today (26th June).

Are these regular periods (seems too early since we heard it would be 6 months) or do we need to do some test to see what is going on ?
Dear Dr,
forgot to mention that my wife has a fibroid. It was left as is during the C-Section.

Brief Answer:
THESE ARE NORMAL PERIODS, DO NOT WORRY

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXXXXX
Thanks for writing to us with your health concern.
THe bleeding pattern as per the calendar maintained by you strongly suggests that these are normal periods.
Exclusive breastfeeding does NOT ensure that the mother will not menstruate.
Mostly periods do not resume fully until she is exclusively breastfeeding, but there are many women who continue to have normal cycles while breastfeeding.
As long as there are no other issues, do not worry.
I would not worry about 2 small fibroids as they are not causing any symptoms and while breastfeeding, the hormonal changes will lead to their regression.
To confirm that nothing is amiss, just go for an internal exam, and a pelvic scan.
That is all.
All the best
