Detailed Answer:

Hi,

I have hone through your query and can understand your concern.

Generally adenoids start shrinking after 8 years of age.

Enlarged adenoids leads to mouth breathing, snoring, reduce hearing, poor weight gain, etc.

If the adenoid enlargement is not associated with tonsillar enlargement, then a trial of nasal steroid spray may be done as follows:

Mometasone furoate nasal spray:1 spray(50 micro gram) in both nostrils once a day for 1 month.

It will help in reducing the size of adenoids.

But if the size of adenoids is very large and associated with tonsillar enlargement or this nasal spray does not help much, then you should go for surgery. The surgery is not very complicated.Complications are there as they are for any other surgery but they occur in very rare case.

Till then, your child should also follow these measures:
Drink warm turmeric milk, daily if possible.
Do steam inhalation.
Avoid cold food.

Hope this answers your question.Take care.
