Is Shaking Hands And Arms Frequently A Symptom Of Anxiety?

default
Posted on Tue, 21 Jun 2016
Question: Sir,
22 year old son has what appears to be anxiety driven bouts of shaking. His hands and arms shake for 3-10 minutes at a time, every day or two. This has been happening for 6-months. He is post graduate, new job, stress, etc... Our assumption is that this is anxiety related, but are there other diagnosis or causes to be concerned about?

Brief Answer:
Yes thyroid need to be considered

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for using Healthcaremagic.

Although his symptoms are indicative of stress but there is definite need to rule out his thyroid problem as it can present in similar way.

The other possibility is substance abuse which need to be checked with through history and examination of patient.

Having said this the patient can be treated and he should not be left on pretext of stress or something as it causes long term impairment if left untreated.

It will be appropriate to see a psychiatrist in your city without delay.

I hope this helps you.
Thanks and regards.
