Brief answer....explained below
Detailed answer....
Hello,
Thanks for the query.
I have read your query and understand your concern.
Shingles is caused by the same virus which causes chicken pox.Once you get chicken pox then it remains inside your body in dormant stage. Shingles occurs when this virus gets activated in later life and generally occurs to old age people or people with weak immune system.
Shingles can not be passed from one person to another. However the shingles virus can be passed to another person if he never had chicken pox in his life. In such a scene person might develop chicken pox and not shingles.
Shingles virus is spread by direct contact with fluid from blisters.
A person is not contagious before the blisters appear or once the crusts form over the blisters.
In nut shell, don't touch the patient and don't shake hands with him. Once you follow this you won't get the virus.
I hope it helps however you are most welcome to revert to me for any further query.
Best of luck
Thanks
