Question : After taking oral prednisone for 8 months and now being off prednisone for 4 months and adrenal gland blood work good in December ...is it safe to take a one time steriod injection for allergies today at the doctor.
Brief Answer:
Hi and welcome to HCM
Detailed Answer:
Thank you for the query.
Yes, it is safe to take single dose of steroid for allergy or inflammatory processes, you should just check your blood sugar 1 hour after it and see is there any increase of blood sugar. even if you take prednisone now,you can have injections since dosages of these two drugs are different.
WIsh you good health. Feel free to ask. Regards

I was worried about my adrenal glands stopping but one steriod injection for allergies should not shut them down? How long will a steriod injection stay in your system. Thank you
Brief Answer:
hi
Detailed Answer:
no, single shot it cant have such bad effect on adrenal glands if your hormonal findings were fine. The time that cortisone stays in our system depends on body weight and some other methabolic factors but usually it has significant effect for 1 week and it stays in our system for a month after the injection.
