Question : We have a new born less than week old. My 30 year old daughter son has strep throat but she does not. She has bought airline tickets previously to come see the baby for a week. Can the baby catch strep throat from her. Baby is breastfedd

If your daughter is asymptomatic, no need to worry

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

If your daughter is asymptomatic and she is the only one visiting the baby, there is nothing to be worried.

Just follow safe hygiene practices like hand washing before touching the baby.

Do not cough or sneeze near the baby.

If your daughter also develops symptoms, she should be tested for strep throat. If positive, she can visit the baby only after completing 24 hours of antibiotic course.
