Is Surgery Advisable For ASD At 13 Years Of Age?

Question: my son 13 yrs is having ASD from birth. Annual testing indicates the ASD has not closed on its own & the size remains the same. Following is the latest findings.
Small ostium secundrum ASD size 6mm with left to right shunt, Trivial TR/ERVSP 16mmHg+ JVP, No other structural anomalies seen, No coarctation of Aorta, Good biventricular function. food intake is normal, but still he is underweighing at 29kgs & 141 cm in height, at times he finds difficulty in breathing while playing.
does a require a surgery to close the ASD. pls advice

Yes, I would consider it is safe for the child to undergo surgery now. Since its asymptomatic complications post surgery will be minimal.

Also, in later years there could be risk of developing Eisenmenger's syndrome where reversal of shunt from left to right becomes right to left and can cause serious complications.
