default
Posted on Wed, 29 Apr 2015
Question: A hida scan showed one stone in the neck of the gallbladder. The EF was 11% but I do not have any pain.
I do not want an operation so what risk do I run with just one stone? If I wait till an attack I have to wait for an operation for 4 days since i AM ON WARFARIN.

Brief Answer:
You do not require any surgery right now.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome to health care magic,

You have asymptomatic single gallstone.

If you have normal CBD (common bile duct),no cholelithiasis,no pancreatitis and your liver function test is in normal range.
Means, here you do not have any complications of gallstones.

There is now general agreement that cholecystectomy should be the treatment of choice for symptomatic gallstones. Controversy, however, exists as to the management of asymptomatic gallstones.

The ready availability of abdominal ultrasonography for the investigation of a wide range of abdominal symptoms has resulted in the increased diagnosis of asymptomatic gallstones.

This is further complicated by the fact that the majority of asymptomatic gallstones remain so and patients rarely experience symptoms or any complications. Furthermore, cholecystectomy is associated with a low but recognised morbidity.

In addition, you have had low EF 11% and you are also taking Tab.warfarin as a blood thinner.

So,considering your asymptommatic case, high risk of surgery and recognised morbidity of surgery with less chances of developing symptoms or any further complications. So, there is no need to worry about your gallstone at present.

Although, surgical removal of gallbladder is the only definitive treatment for gallstones.

You do not require any surgery right now as you have only silent stone.

Thanks and Regards,
