Is Swelling In Groin Lymph Nodes After Drainage Of Abscess A Serious Concern?

default
Posted on Mon, 30 Dec 2013
Question: Hi! Hoping you can help. I recently had an abscess near my vagina that was drained- I was put on a round of Bactrim to accompany the drainage. I finished the antibiotics and the abscess is completely healed. The left side of my groin lymph nodes are still noticeably swollen- should I be concerned? I don't have a fever or any other symptoms. I don't know if it's useful to know but I currently have a toenail that has a slight fungal infection. I'm currently using a homeopathic topical tea tree solution on it that has cured this problem in the past. Would really appreciate some insight into what may be causing the swollen nodes.Thank you!

Brief Answer: Reactive lymph nodes. Detailed Answer: Hello, Thanks for trusting us with your health concern. After an infection like abscess, the enlarged lymph nodes may take 10-15 weeks to come back to their normal undetectable size. This is not worrisome if the size of the nodes is less than 2 cm, with no pain or ulceration in the area. The fungal infection in the toe can also cause the lymph nodes in the groin to swell up. Since there are no symptoms, there is no need to worry. It will subside on its own. Please feel free to discuss further. I will be glad to answer the follow up queries that you have. Wishing you good health. Regards. Dr. Rakhi Tayal.
