Is Temporary Numbness And Complete Lack Of Feeling In The Right Leg A Sign Of A Stroke?

Question: This afternoon I was driving my car for an hour when my right leg and foot started to get numb. After 10 minutes or so I was unable to take my foot off the accelerator and apply the brake and I rearended a car in order to stop. I got out and the right foot and leg were without feeling but feeling gradually resumed and I seem ok now. No other symptoms. I had similar numbness while driving a few days ago. Did I have a stroke?

Brief Answer:
Seems like TIA

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

The symptoms are suggestive of a condition called TIA( transient ischemic attack). However we have to rule out other conditions before commencing the treatment. TIA is a condition where the blood supply to the brain gets occluded for a short period of time and results in transient weakness or numbness, we can call it as mini-stroke.

You can consult a neurologist and get an MRI scan to confirm the diagnosis. You can also get a Doppler scan of lower limb to rule out any clots. Once the diagnosis of TIA is confirmed, you may have to start blood thinners to prevent further stroke attacks.

Wishing you good health.

Regards
