Question : I heard from one of my relative that eldoper(to artest diarrhoea) is banned. is that true? plz confirm.

Eldoper is Loperamide in generic form. There is a ban on Loperamide in certain formulations as mentioned below due to more incidence of side effects in children and those who are systemically ill, malnourished, moderately dehydrated, or have bloody diarrhea.

Following preparations of Loperamide are banned in XXXXXXX for manufacture and sale through gazette notifications under section 26a of Drugs & Cosmetics Act 1940 by the Central Drugs Standard Control Organization, Ministry of Health and Family welfare, Government of XXXXXXX

(i) Liquid Oral antidiarrhoeals or any other dosage form for pediatric use containing Diphenoxylate Lorloperamide
(ii) Fixed dose combination of Loperamide Hydrochloride with Furazolidone

It is banned from XXXXXXX 1,2002.
