Is The Pancreatic Acrinar Metaplasia Cause For Concern?
Question: On my most recent upper endoscopy, the pathology report for biopsy of the lower esophageal junction noted pancreatic acinar metaplasia. Biopsy for the same site was negative for intestinal metaplasia. Is the pancreatic acrinar metaplasia cause for concern? Does it put me at increased risk for Barrett’s, or any other condition? It’s never appeared on any other endoscopy I’ve had. I am 38 and have taken a PPI daily for the past 10 years for GERD. I have attached a copy of the report.

Hello,
Have gone through the query and reports attached by you.
Pancreatic acinar metaplasia just means that some of the glands of pancreas can be seen in gastroesophageal junction.
As your biopsy is normal there is no need to worry.
Pancreatic acinar metaplasia is a normal finding.
So in short there is no need to worry.
It's a common finding in almost 30% of patients in endoscopy.
