Question : Hi my mom is in a wheelchair, and whenever she turns in the chair she gets a pain in her hip. Is there a way we can make her bones stronger and less frail and stiff? She also has lymphedema and gets constant infections. I'm not sure if she has osteoporosis but it runs in the family. Thank you.

Thanks for posting your query.
At your mother's age, being confined to a wheel chair is likely to be associated with osteoporosis. Getting a bone mineral density test (BMD) will help in finding out the cause.
The treatment will depend on the level of severity of the problem after BMD report. You will need to consult an orthopedician who will prescribe the medicines like bisphosphonates according to her need. Till then mild pain killers and regular calcium with vitamin D3 supplements will help.
