Is There Any Correlation Between Foot Cramps And Heart Disease?

default
Posted on Mon, 6 Jul 2015
Question: I read recently there is a connection between foot cramping and heart disease, and I frequently have painful cramping in my right foot. I have also recently experienced transient slight swelling and discomfort located over the breastbone. These seem too weird to raise with my PCP - but do either of these seem important, or even related?

Brief Answer:
there is no direct link

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Cramping is not directly related to heart disease but it may be linked to treatment for heart disease, particularly with diuretics and generally with drugs that may impair the electrolyte balance.

Regarding the other symptom: this is not specific enough and it would be difficult to evaluate it on its own. For example if there are any engorged veins on the same side it could be a sign of blood vessel occlusion.

I hope I've helped!
