Is There Any Reason To Be Concerned About Possible Reaction After A Child Being Stung By A Bee Leading To Sharp Pain?

default
Posted on Mon, 21 Feb 2022
Question: My grandson got stung by a bee 45 minutes ago. The bee sting is not swollen and is not visible. Every now and then he has a “sharp pain” but other than that there are no noticeable symptoms. He has sleep apnea and uses a c-pap when sleeping. Is there any reason to be concerned about possible reaction?

Brief Answer:
Please observe for stridor and respiratroy distress- Use Benadryl

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

You need to be observant for - stridor and respiratory distress.

The trick of management is that you need to be getting an antihistamine at regular intervals round the clock into the system to keep the allergic response at bay.

I suggest -
1. Syr Benadryl (12.5mg/5ml) (at appropriate dose) at 3am/9am/3pm/9pm
2. Topical emollients and lotions will help.
3. Do not apply Calamine lotion as sometimes it may aggravate the situation please.

Three hours after bee sting there is no swelling, no symptoms of respiratory problems. Does this mean there is no need to be concerned about serious health risk?
