Posted on Tue, 28 Jul 2015
Question: Hello Doctor
My name is XXXX and i am 24 years old. I have been suffering from dark lips problems since 2 years. I am not a smoker and i haven't had any reaction on my lips so i cant identify the reason for darkening of my lower lip. I have been trying BILLIONS of home remedies (lemon, haldi, glycerin, alo vera, saffron) Pick one and i will name it, even after trying those remedies i haven't seen any significant improvement. The discoloration still exits. I am fed up and disappointed with the present condition.I have also consulted dermatologists for this problem and they had recommended me Q Switch NDYAG Laser treatment but after researching about this treatment i found out its not safe procedure for the lips and it may lead to uneven lip skin color. Therefore I would like to seek your help on this problem. Please help me so that i cant lighten the dark patches on my lips. Is there any safe ointment/cream which can be applied safely to lighten the color of the lips. For your reference i have attached some picture for better examination. I also request you not to advice any HOME REMEDIES.Thank You

Brief Answer:
Try conservative approach as mentioned

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thanks for your query.

I shall make an effort to provide you with good professional recommendations specific to your questions.

I have gone through your picture and query and based on that, In my opinion it is better to try conservative treatment, like one that you are using that is Hydroquinone and is known to be a potent skin lightener. It significantly reduces the amount of melanin in your integumentary system. About 2% to 4% hydroquinone solution can be used. Other agents likecreams containing Kojic acid and ratinoids can be tried.
You should consult with dermatologist who may recommend this above agents.
You can use sunscreen with SPF 30 and zinc oxide to prevent your lips from becoming darker.

If this does not help, then you can think of laser treatment and chemical peel can be considered, for this you should see dermatologist for further help.

Yet again, I duly appreciate your query to me, I do hope that you have found something useful to help you and I shall be glad to answer any further apprehensions.

Sincerely,
Note: Hope the answers resolves your concerns, however for further guidance of skin related queries consult our Dermatologist.Click here to book a consultation
