Question : my husband had a bad scrape and it wasnt deep but about three iches long..it was jst slightly red and then got a scab...it seemed to be healing then i noticed one area was yellowy and i have cleaned it with antiseptics and just put neosporin on it and the wound is also dark red around it he said it doesnt hurt and it isnt warm. should i take him to the emrgency room?

Brief Answer: Infected wound Detailed Answer: Hi Seems like your husband has developed an infection over the traumatic wound. Now the treatment that you are doing seems to be sufficient at the moment. It is very important to keep the affected area clean and dry. Clean it with an antiseptic liquid twice a day. Apply a topical antibiotic cream like neosporin over it twice a day. Do not apply any other cream or oil over it. See if inspite of the above treatment, you feel that the yellowish discharge is increasing or there is any increase in pain or redness or if there is any fever, then these are the signs that there is a need for oral antibiotics. If there is none of these and the lesions seems to be healing, then you can just in ahead with the topical treatment. Hope it helps Please ask if you have any other query Dr Geetika Paul
