Brief Answer:
How to ease muscle cramps due to increased intake of grapefruit juice.

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

Grapefruit juice is rich in potassium.
Grapefruit juice is not supposed to give cramps but in certain situations it can worsen them.
This situations may be due to nerve compression, dehydration and mineral deficiencies.
You can try
* Keep well hydrated
* Don't drink too much grapefruit juice only with less water because potassium is increased too much
* Add to your diet magnesium rich food to help muscle relaxation and ease cramps
Magnesium rich food are:
Green leafy vegetables (e.g. spinach and kale)
Fruit (figs, avocado, banana and raspberries)
Nuts and seeds.
Legumes (black beans, chickpeas and kidney beans)
Vegetables (peas, broccoli, cabbage, green beans, artichokes, asparagus, brussels sprouts)
Seafood (salmon, mackerel, tuna)

I was referring to eating grapefruit. Would Valsartan (for blood pressure)
have any effect on the cramps in my legs? Thank You

Brief Answer:
Grapefruit and medications interaction.

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

You should avoid eating grapefruit and drinking grapefruit juice while taking valsartan.
Grapefruit juice slows down how quickly the body is able to break down the medication, which could cause valsartan levels in the blood to rise dangerously high.
There is not sufficient prove that valsartan cause leg cramps. Increase potassium intake for it as I advised you before.
If the leg cramps persist, despite increasing your potassium intake, you need to discuss this with your primary doctor.
Meanwhile pravastatin has been proved safe to be used with grapefruit.

Best regards.
