Question : Dearest doctor,
My partner and me are in a long time relation and there’s one question about sexual intercourse. Every time we’ve sex we use condoms for protection against pregnancy. We use condoms because my partner is totally against taking anti pregnancy tablets or something that needs an "operation".

We’re always having sex in my bedroom. Very often when we’ve sex we have it multiple times. The problem is that my bedroom is very far from my bathroom. So after having sex we get the condom by using tissue paper and wipe the remaining. After wiping it we clean our hands with ethyl alcohol and I put on another condom.

I’m afraid that getting the remaining sperm with tissue paper isn’t enough to be fully protected against pregnancy but going to my bathroom and washing it isn’t an option. My bathroom is very far and my partner doesn’t like it, that I’ll leave her alone for some time after having sex.

Is there anything you could advice us to do in the future so that we could be fully confient? This time it really bothers me. I’m always afraid that my partner will be pregnant. In addition to that I could enjoy sex less and less because that fear is dominant in my brain. Having children in my current state of life wouldn’t fit fully.

Thanks
doctor

Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
You are taking adequate precautions against conception. After removing the condom, you can wipe the remaining discharge using wet wipes twice- using separate wet tissues.
To be doubly sure, your partner can use a spermicidal jelly just before having sex.
Vaginal spermicides are available in several forms: spermicidal jelly, cream, foam, tablets, suppositories, sponge and film. A spermicide is inserted into the vagina just before sex to prevent pregnancy. When used along with condom, it effectively protects against conception.
You can use Gynol, Encare, Conceptrol, Crinone or Advantage S according to your convenience.
Hope this answers your query. I will be glad to answer the follow up queries that you have.

My question is almost answered. Thanks for your fast reply. I just have one follow up question. Is it harmful to eat spermicides?

Hello,
Thanks for writing again.
Eating spermicidal jelly is not associated with any major side effects. It is usually unpalatable. If consumed in large amounts, then it may cause stomach upset or diarrhea.
Hope my answer is helpful.
