Is There Interaction Between Keppra And Solian?

default
Posted on Fri, 13 Nov 2015
Question: Hi,
I am on Keppra 1000 mg, Solian (amisulpride) 100 mg, Lexapro 15 mg and Klonopin 3 mg. I would like to know if Keppra (even indirectly) can help to stop dopaminergic activity of Solian, since Keppra is used now against effects of Levodopa, against alcohol related problems and so on (including action on calcium channels), and i have an imbalance in serotonin/dopamine probably because of amisulpride-Solian. I have good results counteracting this problem with Lexapro (but i can only go up to 15 mg for the while) and also with Keppra.
Thanks,
XXXXXXX
Hi again,
Please if possible i would like to know the difference between Keppra XR (extended release) and normal Keppra, maybe my psychiatrist can give me a higher dose using XR.
Thanks, XXXXXXX

Brief Answer:
Keppra XR and keppra are same dosage-wise.

Detailed Answer:
Hello Dear XXXXXXX

In my opinion, keppra does not have any interactions with solian at pharmacodynamic, neurochemical and metabolism level.

The uses of keppra which you have mentioned are still under investigation.
The mechanism of action of keppra for these uses are still being investigated.

Keppra XR was developed to provide patients with the convenience of once-daily dosing, which may improve drug compliance and tolerability.
I do not think there is any difference in dosage administration between the two formulations.

Hope this helps.
Feel free to ask further.

Thanks.

Brief Answer:
The clinical effect will remain the same.

Detailed Answer:
Yes, but the overall clinical effect will remain the same (say for example, whether its keppra XR 1000mg or keppra 1000mg, the effect will remain same).

Regards.

Hi,
Maybe i was not clear, i mean if it's possible to have a higher dose of Keppra (more than 1000mg in this case) due to compliance and tolerability of XR. Is it possible?
Thanks, XXXXXXX

Brief Answer:
yes dose of keppra can be increased.

Detailed Answer:
Certainly yes. The dose of keppra can be increased.

The maximum dose of keppra for OCD has not been established.
However, the maximum recommended dose for keppra for epilepsy is 3000mg.

So, in my opinion, the dose of keppra in your case can be increased.

Also, this a very safe drug.

Hope this answers your query.
Thanks.
