I would explain as follows:

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

After reviewing your medical history, I would explain that your actual BP values are high, but not an issue of great concern.

It is not dangerously high!

If those values persist, it is necessary to discuss with your prescribing doctor on the possibility of adding another anti-hypertensive drug.

A calcium channel blocker like Amlodipine or Lercanidipine (10 mg/day); or an ACEi (like Ramipril 5-10 mg/day, Perindopril 4-8 mg/day, etc.) could be a rationale alternative.

Actually you are taking Metoprolol 75 mg that is not enough to control your BP values, it is not considered a potent anti-hypertensive drug and needs to be part of a more extensive therapeutic scheme.

You should discuss with your doctor on the above mentioned issues.

Hope to have been helpful to you!

So the metropolol will not help at all?

Brief Answer:
Metoprolol is very helpful in special conditions.

Detailed Answer:
Hello again!

Metoprolol may be of some help especially in case a hyper-dynamic state is present (like tachycardia in the settings of anxiety, thyroid dysfunction, etc.).

Daily Metoprolol dose may range from 25 mg to 200 mg and even larger (up to 400 mg/day).

Anyways, adding another medication as I explained you above would be preferred.

Wishing you good health!

Regards,

Dr. Iliri

I just took it again To see if there was any difference from this morning I took it three times. The first time was 147/93 second was 154/93 andthe 3rd was 148/94. I know you said this is not dangerously high. I am going to call the doctor tomorrow and try to get in and have him take it to see if there is a difference. What is considered dangerously high? I am really concerned about this.

Opinion as follows:

Detailed Answer:
Hello!

Extreme BP values are systolic greater that 180 - 200 mmHg and diastolic 110 - 120 mmHg. In such case immediate attention and prompt medical evaluation and treatment re required. This is called hypertensive emergency.

In your case, you just need to discuss with your attending physician about anti-hypertensive therapy optimization as I mentioned before.

Let me know in case of any further questions.

Dr. Iliri
