Question : I’ve ask you prior questions re RUQ pain? You have kindly answered and I have highly rated you. I have a follow up question: you may remember I’ve had blood work, mri of abdomen, ultrasound, endoscopy, colonoscopy. Now they are talking about a HIDA scan.. I know this scan looks at various things but wouldn’t cancer have been ruled out from previous tests?? I am a worrier. I have no other symptoms other than RUQ discomfort 3 on a 10 scale, intermittent. I have no jaundice, weight loss or gain, feel some gas and kind of movement in area. I have had IBS for years. Thanks again

                                    Brief Answer:
HIDA is not designed to rule out cancer.
Detailed Answer:
Hello my dear patient and thank you for follow up query,
Have seen your details and i appreciate your concerns,
As per your query MRI whole abdomen and cololoscopy and endoscopy are a complete package to detect cancer.
Role of HIDA is completely different. It describes the functioning of your gall bladder.Ejection fraction of gall bladder etc.
Main functions of HIDA is to look at the bile-excreting function of your liver and to track the flow of bile from your liver into your small intestine.I don't think its required to rule out cancer.
Hope i was helpful,
Feel free to write back in case of any query,
Thank you.
