Question : my kidney is working about 3 percent what does it mean and was told I'm lucky I am not on dialysis. Can my kidney repair it self if I drink a lot of water and stay away from salt.

As per the description of your problem, We cannot estimate the kidney function on percentage basis but kidney function will be estimated on basis of Measured GFR(GFR-glomerular filtration rate) or e-GFR (estimated-glomerular filtartion rate)

According to the GFR value the kidney disease can be divided into various stages.

For only end stage renal disease patients, it requires dialysis.
