Last Monday Morning I Noticed An Irritation On My Thigh/buttocks,

default
Posted on Tue, 9 Jul 2019
Question: Last Monday morning I noticed an irritation on my thigh/buttocks, after a couple days it turned to blisters. I also had flu-like symptoms and a very swollen ground lymph node on that same side. Thursday I saw a doctor and today the test confirmed it is HSV. I had slept with my ex the week prior and had never had anything remotely close to this before. Is it more likely this is a new infection, or just as probable that I’ve had the infection for a long time and this is just the first symptomatic episode?

Brief Answer:
Hard to know the contact source

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

That is a very specific question with so little information. I am afraid it is difficult to say whether it is from your ex or trigger of an underlying infection.
Actually the amount of time between contact with the virus and the appearance of symptoms, the incubation period, is two to twelve days; and most people average about three to six days. So it could be your Ex. If it is a fully virulent symptoms and first ever time this could be first contact.

But if you had a contact earlier with no symptoms, it cannot be so virulent or severe symptoms. The symptoms can erupt if have other underlying problems or even simple stress or for that matter guilt can cause a trigger of symptoms as the virus remain dormant in the nerves.

You may want to get a series of tests to be able to precisely say that. Your treating doctor would know that.

Hope this answers.
