Question: Lately with the Covid-19 Pandemic i have been pretty scared of Blood clots and thrombosis. I was 2 days in the Hospital for a 24 hour ecg and blood pressure measuring and they did a complete blood count. Would that show or hint that i have blood clots or thrombosis ?

Brief Answer:
Coagulation profile,D dimer are investigations of choice to detect clotting

Detailed Answer:
Hi...
Welcome to "Ask a Doctor" service.
I am Dr Ajeet XXXXXXX

I have gone through your query and here is my opinion.

Unfortunately neither an ECG nor a CBC is used acceptable criteria for establishing an association with blood clots or thrombosis.

Complete blood count (CBC) can only reveal the platelet count which are the blood cells involved in clotting and they usually range from 1.5 to 3.5 lakh/cumm

To diagnose, thromboembolic phenomenon, the sensitive and specific clinical tests used are D Dimer assay and Coagulation profile which includes Prothrombin time,INR, APTT,BT,CT, Factor V assay, fibrinogen Levels.

Hope that I have answered your query.

Stay healthy and stay blessed.
Regards.
