Detailed Answer:
Hello!
Welcome and thank you for asking on 'Ask A Doctor' service!
Regarding your concern, I would like to know if your chest pain is triggered by deep breathing or body movements... This would indicate any possible musculoskeletal pain.
Is the pain related to food intake? This could indicate gastroesophageal reflux or biliary stones.
Coming to this point, I would recommend trying taking a painkiller (Acetaminophen or Ibuprofen). If it helps relieve the pain, it would indicate possible musculoskeletal pain.
I would also recommend trying an antiacid or PPI (Omeprazole or Pantoprazole) to help against reflux.
If your chest pain persists despite the above-mentioned drugs, I would recommend consulting with your attending physician and performing some tests to investigate for possible causes underlying your complaints:
- a resting ECG and cardiac enzymes
- a chest X-ray study and pulmonary function tests
- complete blood count, PCR, ESR for inflammation.
An exercise cardiac stress test would help exclude coronary artery disease in case suspicions on this disorder are raised.
Hope you will find this answer helpful! Feel free to ask further...
Wishing good health,
Dr.Ilir Sharka, Cardiologist
