My 15 Year Old Son Is Complaining That His Left

Question: My 15 year old son is complaining that his left hip and tailbone hurt, with some lower abdominal pain, pain scale 8. Left hip most painful. Pain started last night with some pain in his testicles. No pain in his testicles this morning. Pretty tough kid, doesn't complain much. No recent injuries or falls.

He should be investigated

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Testicles are suspended from a Spermatic cord. Spermatic cord starts from the Groin. Infection can occur in the Testis which can spread to the Spermatic cord leading to pain in the surrounding areas like Hip.

Another condition that causes severe pain in the Testis is Torsion.
Both these conditions can be differentiated by Colour Doppler of the Scrotum.
If it is normal, then X-Ray pelvis has to be taken to see any pathology in the Hip joint and Tail Bone.

Till investigations, I prescribe Antibiotic like Cefuroxime 500mg and Anti-inflammatory tablets to my patients with similar complaints.
Please consult a Surgeon and proceed further.
