Question : My 18 yr old university son has a resting heart rate of around 90 and tells me he has slightly double or blurred vision in one eye. He works out not overweight (wirey). Shares a flat with friends so doesn’t eat great, will stay up late at night (typical student). Does not drink alcohol heavily nor do any drugs. Opthomologist last year diagnosed high tension in his eyes. No health issues otherwise. We are concerned re:heart rate and vision

Hello

After going through the medical details provided by you I can understand your concern for your sons health and I would like to tell you that there can be few possible causes for the heart rate to be on higher side

1. Due to increased intra ocular pressure
2. High sympathetic response which can be normal in some young individuals.
3. Anaemia (as he doesn’t eat well)

Few tests will be required to understand the underlying cause like complete blood count, thyroid profile.

Also I would like to know about his average blood pressure, does it remain on the higher side?

Also I would like to see the reports of the diagnosis made by the ophthalmologist.

Kindly revert back with required information.

Kind Regards

Thank you. He is visiting a GP today and should get the BP done. I instructed him to get blood tests (on your advice). I will need to find the paper on the ocular pressure. In France we are tested via hard puff of air into the eye. And he reported back to me what the opthomologist said but I do not have the exact data. Let me revert back to you. Thank you for your kind attention.

Hello

The blood tests and visits to the opthamologist and cardiologist came out normal. The cardiologist suggested it was fatigue, stress, diet, and genetics. Thank you for reassuring me while waiting for the tests. The blood test results are attached for your information.

Best wishes
