Hello!

Welcome to - Ask a Doctor - service!

Regarding your concern, let me explain that as blood pressure is a dynamic parameter, it is necessary to frequently check your BP values.

This is especially true in case of therapeutic changes in order to control the effectiveness of the new dose or scheme.

Checking BP values every hour would give the more realistic picture of this parameter variations.

But, as this is impossible and would condition your daily activity, three to four times daily would be a reasonable strategy to investigate therapeutic effectiveness.

Another alternative would be to undergo an ambulatory blood pressure monitoring test (AMBP),that is a smal device that checks your blood pressure hourly, but it may be a little uncomfortable.

To conclude, 3-4 times a day blood pressure monitoring for a couple of days up to a week would be the most appropriate strategy.

Hope to have been helpful!

Kind regards,

Dr. Ilir Sharka, Cardiologist

I was thinking once a day. Checking it 3 to 4 times a day would make me too nervous. How long would it take for the added dosage to become affective in your opinion?

Detailed Answer:
Hello again dear!

I understand your concern and would recommend check your blood pressure values in the morning, if you will only check once.

The added dosage will become effective in 3-4 days, but sometimes it may need up to a week, based on individual properties.

Hope to have been helpful!

Wishing all the best,
