Question : My boyfriend, a 69 year old white male, started complaining earlier today of a swollen gland and sore throat. Now he is complaining of neck and ear pain. He states he can barely swallow. He has a slight fever and says his jaw is even starting to hurt now. He had a heart attack 3 years ago and also has a aortic stent.

I can certainly understand your concern.

I have worked through your attached query in detail.

As per the description you provided these symptoms possibly represent Acute infection of the pharynx that is technically referred to as Pharyngitis which is a form of upper respiratory tract infection.

This condition require immediate assistance with oral antibiotics and antiallergic medication for 1 week for complete resolution of infection.

It's advisable not to get exposed to dust and polluted environment for a while.
