My Child 41/2 Years Old Suffering From Fever And Cough

Question: My child 41/2 years old suffering from fever and cough since 2 weeks. His blood test has been done. First esr was 110 before antibiotic. Repeated blood test after antibiotic esr comes down to 85. Is there anything to worry.

Let me assure you that a raised ESR is a non-specific marker of illness and not a cause of concern. In any case the ESR is gradually coming down and so there is no reason for you to worry. You need not test for it further and clinical improvement is all you need to look for.

Thank you doctor. So no need to repeat esr test. But fever still persist. He is having temperature at night. It's been more than 2 weeks he is having fever.

Get a Widal test done

Detailed Answer:
If the fever is lasting for 2 weeks or more you need to get typhoid ruled out as a possible cause. Widal test can be done for the same.
