Sometimes it is painful to touch the spine part below the neck to middle spine. Lying down feels very iritating when I lie on my back. This has been happening since December. Once i had radiating pain in my left arm. my background: cervical spondylosis in 2014 and had an episode in 2020, but that pain is very different and always radiating, while this seems to be different. concerned about this pain. any help will be good

Brief Answer:
Compression of the spinal cord or nerves to consider.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome to “Ask a Doctor“ service.

I have read your question.

With these symptoms compression on the spinal cord and nerves of your cervical spine should be considered and evaluated further.

Since the symptoms are affected by certain head and neck positions, instability of the cervical spine should be considered as well.

An MRI and dynamic x-rays of the cervical spine and an evaluation by a spine specialist are necessary for a correct diagnosis and further treatment that may include cervical collar, NSAID drugs, physical therapy, and in severe cases, surgery.

Hope you found the answer helpful.

Let me know if I can assist you further.

Hello Dr. I did MRI back in XXXXXXX 2020 and had a disc bulge in c7, it noted that I did not have any compression of the cord itself and the problem seemed to have subsided.

With the current problem, I don't have similar pain, not radiating but feel spasm like pain along the spine. Wondering what could be the cause

Brief Answer:
I would explain as follows.

Detailed Answer:
Welcome back.

The MRI you refer was performed more or less six months ago, furthermore, the symptoms are not the same, so, in order to understand correctly your current condition, a new MRI is necessary.

Dynamic x-rays also are needed for a correct evaluation of the spinal stability.

If these examinations don’t show anything serious, your symptoms may be of muscular origin, in such settings physical therapy helps a lot.

Hope this helps.

Feel free to ask if you have further questions.
