Question : My dad 77 yrs old from last 3-4 months has started walking slowly. He has difficulty in standing up. Sometimes while walking looses control and feels dizzy, but controls himself. He has diabetes under control (Takes pills). He has Urine control problem, but sonography reports are clear (Takes pills). His foot only gets swoollen many times (comes and go), Takes pills. He has to take Inhaler too for minor bronchoitis. His B.P. is slightly above normal so takes Pills for that. He feels cold feet now a days, takes Pills for that. Overall he is OK, goes to market, Garden...with friends, walks independently without any support as any normal people do. Whats the actual problem for his sudden slow walking...?
is it related to Heart which we have not yet checked.
He has started taking so many pills from last one year.
PLEASE ADVICE ON THE SLOW WALKING...

Brief Answer:
Slow walking could be related to Parkinsonism.

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for posting your query.

I am Dr Sudhir Kumar, Neurologist, and I would try my best to help you.

I have noted your dad's clinical details. Based on this, the most likely cause for his slow waking could be Parkinsonism. This can be confirmed by a detailed clinical examination by a doctor, especially a neurologist. If the clinical examination is suggestive of parkinsonism, then a brain scan may be need to find out the cause. The two common causes are 1. vascular parkinsonism due to lack of blood supply to brain, 2. Idiopathic Parkinson's disease- due to lack of dopamine in brain.

I hope my answer helps. Please get back if you have any follow up queries or if you require any additional information.

Wishing you good health,
