Question: My daughter
is trying to nurse and not sure if producing a lot of milk
Her baby Daughter is latching and seems to be getting some
When she pumps not a lot comes out
she had a little mastitis and now taking antibiotics and UTI
she is also taking an iron pill because she lost a lot of blood after C Section and take a Prenate
Is there something she can take to produce more milk or types of food that help produce milk.
She also want to make sure it is still ok to have light period type bleeding after C Section which has been 9 days ago.
One more question is can she take clonopin and Tylenol sinus and afrin while nursing.?

I have gone through your query and understand your concerns. The fact that she has mastitis indicates that breast milk is being produced but not adequately drained. Mother's breast milk is produced on the demand of the baby and therefore breast pumps cannot adequately drain it. Hungrier the baby, more vigorous is the suck. More is the suck, more is the amount of breast milk produced. So, it is the direct stimulus of the baby's suck on the mother's areola (brown portion surrounding the nipple) that is needed for an effective breast milk production. I assume that the antibiotics are lactation safe and therefore you can feel free to breast feed. No issues with the iron she is taking.
Let me emphasize on the fact that breast milk is the best possible milk for a baby and there can be no alternatives for the same. Most formula milks are cow milk based and hence difficult to digest. Moreover they make the child more prone to complications and infections. Giving formula automatically reduces the demand of the baby and thereby the production of breast milk. All you need to do is to switch back to exclusive breast feeding and the production will increase automatically. All you need to do is to monitor the urine output. If the frequency is more than 6 times in 24 hours, you would know that the amount of feeding is adequate. If the amount of passage of urine is less or if the child is lethargic you would need to take the child to a doctor without delay.
Breastfed infant receive a maximum of 2.5% of the maternal weight-adjusted dosage of clonazepam (Clonopin). So, you can take it if you really need. No issues with taking Tylenol.
