My Dayghter Is In Breast Feeding Can She Take Levocitrizine 5mg

Question: My dayghter seems to hve viral fever and her doctor told she has congestion in throat and nose and she can have fever of 103-104(no need to put water bandages on head).she can get hacking cough and vomiting . pescribed the following.

Is the treatment correct.

1) azithral jr 0.7ml twice a day for 5 days
2) wikoryl oral drops 0.7 ml thrice a day for 5 days

If fever then meftal p 2 ml sos XXXXXXX 3 doses
If vomit domstal baby 7 drops
If cough Ascoril Ls drops 1ml 3 times a days

We are contiuing with the treatment .however my wife is also feeling she might caught cold .She is breast feeding the baby . Can my wife take levocitrizine 5mg for what she suspect can cause runny nose.Is is safe while breastfeeding and the above medicine being given to child ( child is 6 month +).

Aside to levocitrzine wbat else she can take in case my wife caught cold.

Can take levocetrizine, conservative treatment will help

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

She can take levocetrizine safely while breastfeeding.
With recommended dose of levocetrizine,only little amount of medicine reached in the milk and that will not cause any harm to the baby.
In adults conservative treatment like warm saline gargle, steam inhalation, paracetamol for fever with antiallergic like levocetrizine is sufficient in most of the cases.
If cough is severe, she may need cough syrup containing mucolytic with dextromethorphan like Ambrodil D or Ascoril D helps. Antibiotic may also be needed in severe cases after consultation with physician.

So she can take levocetrizine and dolo 650 .can you pls pescribe the dosage considering she is lactating and also baby is taking antibiotics and other medicines as mentioned above

You can give levocetrizine 5 mg once a day and dolo(paracetamol)650 for fever. Paracetamol 650 can be given 3 times a day.
There will not be any significant harm to the baby with this dose and the dose given to baby can be continued as same.
