Question : My father an 87 yo diabetic/hypertensive but generally well taken care of had in July a surgical intervention for severe chronic sinusitis. It resulted in a perforated Cribiform plate . Due to complications of a Aspergilliosis infection he lost the right eyesight and has a ophthalmic vein thrombosis. He had to have a craniotomy in mid August of this year due to collection of infection under the frontal lobes (in between hemispheres). When would it be safe to fly commercial airlines?
Thanks
                            Thanks
                                    Brief Answer:
He may need up to 8 weeks before flying.
Detailed Answer:
Hello dear, welcome to Ask a doctor service.
I read your query and here is my advice.
Usually, people may wait up to 4 weeks after craniotomy before flying.
He may be recovered by 4 weeks after craniotomy but taking count that he is diabetic and suffering also from hypertension he may need to take a longer time to full recovery about 8 weeks.

Also, he should take the medications regularly to keep diabetes send blood pressure within the normal range.
Hope I have answered the question.
