Question : My finger was crushed by a softball fielding a grounder. The nail is black and the finger is very stiff as if it was jammed and blood was pouring out of the nail for awhile the bleeding has slow down but it is continuing. Will it stop on its own? I believe the nail is loose, should I try to rip it off? Should I still have it wrapped up?

Brief Answer:
If the nail is very loose, it can be removed.

Detailed Answer:
Hi

As per your description, it looks like a Blood clot (Haematoma) after injury. Sometimes, it lifts the nail and loosen it. If the nail is very loose and hanging, it can be removed. If it is not loose, then you can apply dressing.
Bleeding should stop after few minutes. If it is not stopping, then you should consult a Heamatologist and get investigations like Bleeding time, Clotting time, Prothrombin time etc.
Nothing to worry.
The blood clot will resolve spontaneously in course of time.

Hope I answered your query. If you have any questions,I will clarify further.
Wish you good health and speedy recovery
Regards
