Question : My grandson at 36 weeks has an enlarged kidney. The previous ultrasound showed the kidney measuring 5 1/2 mm. Now presently it is 12 mm. Please explain b/c my daughter in law wasn’t screened for Down’s syndrome
Brief Answer:
Just an enlarged kidney does not mean Downs syndrome
Detailed Answer:
Hello... just an enlarged kidney doesn't mean that it is Downs syndrome. It could be a simple extra renal pelvis or an antenatally detected pelvicaliectasis. This might reduce by itself after birth.
He needs ultrasound after birth for follow up please.
Best regards.
